Bears Win Big 42-14 in First Round

By: Taylor Steinmetz/MJHS newspaper/November 12, 2007

Mt. Juliet won their first game of the play-offs on November 9 over the Tullahoma Wildcats 42-14. The Tullahoma Wildcats came into the game looking for revenge from last year’s first round play-off game at Mt. Juliet where the Bears knocked the Wildcats out in the first round. Mt. Juliet came into the game with an 8-2 record with their two losses being from teams with the nickname of the Wildcats. Tullahoma’s nickname was also the Wildcats, but that didn’t affect the Bears as they won 42-14 in the first round of the play-offs.

Tullahoma received the opening kick-off to start the game, but couldn’t get anything accomplished. Mt. Juliet, however, did accomplish something when Robert Hill found Anthony Odom in the end zone for a 22-yard touchdown pass. Clark McAdoo made the extra point. The Wildcats received the ball and on first down there was a fumble which was recovered by Mt. Juliet’s Brady Earnhardt. Michael Nwokoji ran the ball to the one yard line and on the next play the Bears scored when Robert Hill ran from one yard out on a QB sneak and Clark McAdoo made the PAT at the 3:46 mark in the first quarter.

Eleven seconds into the second quarter Antwaun Majors caught a TD pass and Clark McAdoo did his job by making the extra point for a 21-0 Mt. Juliet lead. Tullahoma was driving with under a minute left in the first half and fumbled the ball, which was recovered by Mt. Juliet’s Lucas Rust. Two plays later Anthony Odom caught a 45-yard touchdown pass from Robert Hill with 15.8 seconds left in the second quarter. Clark McAdoo made the extra point for the Bears to have a 28-0 lead at halftime.

Antwaun Majors ran 29 yards for the next score of the game to put Mt. Juliet up 35-0 with 6:24 left in the third quarter. The Wildcats scored their first touchdown right before the end of the third quarter and made their first extra point for a 35-7 score. The Bears did score again when Brady Earnhardt ran from four yards out and Clark McAdoo made the PAT for a 42-7 Mt. Juliet lead. The last score of the game came at the 2:56 mark in the fourth quarter when the Tullahoma Wildcats scored on a 24 yard touchdown pass and made the extra point, but it was to little to late has Mt. Juliet won it 42-14 to advance to the second round for a rematch at Hillsboro.
