Child Abandonment
Editor: Lance Garrison

With our modern society child abandonment is becoming more common. For reasons that could mysterious to some, could be friendly for others. Some believe that abandonment is just dumping some child off in a ditch or something, but its much more than that. Child Abandonment is the practice of abandoning offspring outside of legal adoption. Some of the most common reasons would be because of social, cultural, and some political factors as well as some mental illness.

Abandonment can also be a feeling within the child realm. Children need to have play time without a adult intervention true, but according to Child Development Institute playing with your children builds a bond that stays with them forever. It opens the door for sharing problems and concerns when the need arises.

I did some interviews with some of the people in Mt. Juliet.

They were asked " What are you feelings about Child Abandonment. "

Ms. Gill (Art Teacher)

" A child does not ask to be born. When he is born, however, his parents have the responsibility to see to his well-being. if they are unable to raise him, when it is their responsibility to place him with someone who can. The child has the right to a life of love and care. Anyone who would abandon a child behaves on a lower level than animals. Even animals raise their young and will die protecting them. Why would we expect less of humans?"

Kelsey Quiambao - Junior

"Child abandonment is very sad for the child, who can survive in life without the guidance of parents. Kids can't help their parents don't want them. The pare3nts could at least find someplace or someone to give the kid to, to have a good life. The new law passed says parents can drop kids off at a church, police station, or hospital, as long as its within a time period where the child cant remember. I agree with this because it is giving the kid a place to go and be safe, and also so the parents aren't forced to drop the kids in a ditch, or worse, kill them. Child abandonment is horrible for the innocent kids, and this new law will hopefully help prevent the deaths of these kids."

Molly Hagan - Senior

"I don't think that chi8ldern should be abandoned under any circumstances. Families that are unable to have children would gladly adopt a new born. I believe that people who abandon their children, feel they have no other way out. More promotion & advertising of adoption agencies could have a huge impact on the number of children abandoned."

Victoria Frazier - Freshmen

"I don't agree with it at all. I think if you put yourself in the position of being pregnant you should have to raise the child. Leaving a kid could put them in a situation where there dying of thirst or hunger, or worse getting hurt. Now days you never know what could happen."

( Picture unavailable )Ben Gilg - Sophomore

"I think child abandonment is very wrong. The thought of someone leaving a child just because they don't want it anymore is sad. Every child should be able to grow up in a home with parents, and not ever have to worry about its parents not wanting it. I could not imagine knowing my parents did not want me.to me, child abandonment is one of the most selfish things a parent could do."

These thoughts are more or less along the same thought pattern, wouldn't you say child abandonment is wrong to?
