The city of Mount Juliet is located approximately ten miles east of Nashville with a population of 12,000. Mt. Juliet High School is a four year high school in the Wilson County School System and accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The enrollment is 1822 (423 12th graders) with a student/teacher ratio of 25 to 1. The school follows the block scheduling system with one (1) credit earned per course each term; each class period is 90 minutes long with four periods per day. The school year has 180 days. Prior to the 1998-99 school year, a traditional six-period schedule with year long courses was followed. The faculty and staff at Mt. Juliet High School is made up of six administrators (one principal, three assistant principals, and two school resource officer), four guidance counselors, two media specialist, and 100 classroom teachers.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Students entering high school prior to Fall of 2010:
Twenty-eight (28) credits are required for graduation; specific course requirements depend on the path chosen. Basic core requirements are English-4 credits, Math-3 credits, Science 3-credits, Lifetime Wellness 1-credit, US History 1-credit, American Government 1-credit, Economics 1-credit, World History/World Geography 1-credit, and 13 elective credits.
Students entering high school in Fall of 2010:
Twenty-eight (28) credits are required for graduation. Course requirements include: English (4 credits), Math (4 credits), Science (3 credits), Lifetime Wellness (1 credit), Physical Education (1 credit), Social Studies (4 credits), Personal Finance (1 credit), Fine Arts (1 credit), Foreign Language (2 credits), Elective Focus (3 credits), and 4 additional Elective credits.
MARKING SYSTEM AND RELATED PROCEDURES
Numerical grades are given in all classes for each grading period. The following grading scale is used in all classes: A=93-100 B=85-92 C=75-84 D=70-74 F=69 and below.
Class rank is calculated by and includes all subjects given school credit beginning with the first semester of the 9th grade and ending with the first semester of the 12th grade (seven semesters). GPA is based on a 4.0 scale and is weighted by the following criteria:
Final grades in the following courses selected for weighting will be increased by 0.5 point: Honors English 1,2,3,4; Dual Enrollment English 12; Dual Enrollment College Algebra; World Studies; Honors World Geography; Honors Economics; Honors US History; Honors Biology; Chemistry 2; Physics; Anatomy/Physiology; Honors Geometry; Honors Algebra 2; Honors US Government; Advanced Algebra/ Trigonometry; Statistics; Pre-Calculus; Drafting 2 Advanced; Electronics 2 Advanced; Accounting 2; Computer Programming C++; Spanish 4; French 4; and German 4.
Final grades in the following courses selected for weighting will be increased by 1.0 point. AP English 3,4; AP US History; AP Calculus; AP Biology; AP Macro-Economics; AP Micro-economics; AP Psychology; AP US American Government; AP Spanish 4; AP Chemistry; AP Art; AP Statistics, AP Physics, AP German.
