A Tribute to My Mom He sees a little boy playing with his mother in the front yard. Now the boy is helping her plant flowers. She is teaching him how to ride his bike. He crashes and she tells him to keep trying or your never going to get better. He says his first curse work. She takes him to the bathroom to wash his mouth out with soap. It's his first soccer game. He looks over and sees her standing there cheering him on. He is sad. She holds him making him feel better. The boy starts school with her where she teaches. He is so nervous on the first day at a new school he sits in her class all day. He rides in the car with her every day to pick up his older brother. They would both fall asleep in the car waiting. She wakes him up on Sunday to go to church. He would fake sleeping. She would always know this. She pulls him out of the bed to go to church. He gets to middle school. It is different for him without her. She makes him be in the band for one year. He hates it. He cries in his room for hours and hours before he is only fourteen and his mother has cancer. He knew only bad from this. He is nervous as she loses her hair. He gets happy because the doctors say that she is cancer free. He loves this. She goes to his first soccer game in high school. He smiles at her as he runs down the field. Tears are in his future. She gets cancer again and he is even more scared than last time. He thought it was gone. Emotions mix with anger and hatred. She gets better, though. They are giving her the best treatment and she gets rid of the cancer again. They go to his brothers graduation. He is two years older than him. His Junior year is the best in a long time with everything being near perfect. That is all that could last. In the summer his mother becomes sick to her stomach and dizzy feeling. he notices that her right eye is crossed. He laughs because he is wondering why it stayed like that. She goes to the doctor. She has to stay overnight, and he becomes worried. They found cancer again. This time it had gone to her spine. He cried for a long time because this time his one true friend, the person who understands him most in the world, there person he could always depend on in hard times, his mother, was not going to get better this time. Hatred and anger all rush through his mind. He cannot stand it. He wants to seek revenge, but there is nothing he can do. There is nothing anyone can do only to be left in Gods hands now. She cannot talk to him. He goes not know if she can hear him tell her that he loves her. She is moved to a place that can help more than he can. A week later he lies there over her holding her as his mother dies. After all the tears and sadness that he has felt for three weeks suddenly stops. He feels acceptance, freedom, and love all at once. For how he knows she will always be there cheering him on at the soccer games, and striving for him to do better in every possible way. I wake up now with the wind ini my hair, looking at the sunset, knowing that she is looking right back. In memory of: Katie Hall |
