Huckabee Wins Tennessee

Evangelical voters and disgruntled conservatives pushed Mike Huckabee to victory in Tennessee, giving the former Arkansas governor a solid sweep of the South for Super Tuesday.

With 90 percent of precincts reporting, Huckabee had 34 percent of the vote, narrowly edging out U.S. Sen. John McCain’s 32 percent. Huckabee was carrying the majority of Tennessee’s rural counties, which offset McCain’s victories in east Tennessee. (Read more..)

Tennessee win heartens Clinton backers in South

U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton showed Tuesday she could win in the South with a Tennessee victory boosted by a personal appearance, winning across Tennessee.

Clinton, from New York, carried at least 88 counties statewide, while her rival Barack Obama won in the state’s urban centers, including the counties where Nashville, Chattanooga and Jackson are located. In early returns, Obama also was leading in Shelby County, where Memphis is located. He carried Williamson County and a small pocket of counties east of Memphis. (Read more..)
